Help Cats and Dogs Affected by the Thailand Floods

November 1, 2011

Here is a public announcement from SCAD Bangkok, please help cats and dogs (and all animals) that have been affected by the flooding in Thailand.

Imagine being abandoned by your family? No food, no clean water, no shelter, no safety. This is the fate of many dogs and cats in Thailand right now, as the country battles with its worst floods in recorded history.

Please help me to support the forgotten casualties – the street dogs and cats, and family pets left behind by their owners in their rush to evacuate areas threatened by the rising waters. Donate now to help us support other groups during this terrible time and feed, transport and treat the animals most in need.

A sweet mother dog and her three four-week old pups are some of the lucky ones SCAD was able to scoop up before the water reached central Bangkok. Toong Saai (which means “sand bag” in Thai) was found with her little ones huddled behind a wall of sand bags at an evacuated restaurant. She had no water, no shelter, and her only food source was a huge bowl of rice – which was sour and covered in cockroaches and flies.

Working with a large network of animal welfare groups, hundreds of abandoned and homeless dogs and cats are in need of urgent assistance, and the only way we can provide help is with your donation.

Temple dog “Flood” was found on the brink of death while we evacuated our Dog Center. A small corner was found in the back of the SCAD truck and he was taken immediately to a supportive vet clinic for life saving fluids, vitamins and medication. He is still in that clinic and has a long road ahead of him to full recovery.

Please, I urge you to donate now to help dogs like Toong Saai and Flood.

I Love BKK animals

Thank you SCAD Bangkok, for helping to improve the lives of lonely animals in Thailand.

Hotel Vista

August 12, 2011

Mini 3 night, 4 days trip to Pattaya:

Hotel Vista Pattaya
Open 24hours/day
website: http://www.hotelvista.com
Call: +66 (0) 38 052 300
Address: 196 Pattaya Soi 4, Banglamung, Chonburi 20150, Thailand

Hotel Vista was overall a nice hotel. Good location there in Soi 4 of north Pattaya. There is a Family Mart nearby, lots of restaurants, taxi stands, and even the Pattaya International Hospital very near. Hotel Vista is located right opposite of Mike Beach Resort. Hotel Vista is a very nice looking hotel, with a lot of extra’s, but quite a few were a bit disappointing also. Great free breakfast buffet, nice gym, nice rooms, but they do have an ant problem in their bedrooms. Also, the free wifi only works about 40% of the time. The room I stayed in did not have hot water. And the steam room was out of service. Overall, for the price, Hotel Vista was a disappointment to my friend and I both. Although it was a decent experience, I will choose to not stay there again.

The Rooms: The rooms at Hotel Vista were very nice, looking great. Nice balcony view, nice size. My only problems were they have small ants that are everywhere, I even found a couple dead ants in my bed. Also my room 712 did not have hot water in the shower or sink. Was a nice raindrop shower with bathtub, but taking a cold bath is not really my thing. The aircon did work very well, you could make your room into a winter feeling if you really wanted lol. You get 2 free bottles of water per day, and another great thing is the minibar is fully stacked with drinks, water, alcohol and snacks. Also there is a water boiler for making tea and coffee and a hair dryer too. Dvd player in each room is a bonus too.
The Menu: The menu has a lot of great foods to choose from, western menu section and also a thai menu section. They also have a lot of healthy choices too.
What I Ate: I ate the spaghetti bolognese, it was great!
The Staff: The staff was very friendly always, very welcoming and nice.
The Facilities: The gym was nice and clean, a little bit small, but it’s perfect for a hotel and travel. The steam room was not in service so that was a big downer.
The Bathrooms: Bathrooms clean and nice.

Extras: Hotel Vista has free wifi internet for customers, BUT, I would not really consider this hotel if you are serious about using internet, it was 1 of the worst internet connections that I’ve seen from all my travels in my life. Also another big downer was they are advertised to have a steam room, but it was not available for use when I’m there. They do give you a few drink tickets for free beer at the hotel bar, and also you get a delicious free breakfast too.

Wasabi Japanese Restaurant

August 3, 2011

Wasabi Japanese Restaurant
“Wonderful japanese cuisine in the heart of Ratchada”
Open everyday:
Website: http://www.wasabithai.com (their website is currently offline)
Call: 02 660 9276
Address: 3rd Floor, Esplanade, 99 Rachadapisek Rd, Bangkok 10400 (BTS station Thailand Cultural Centre)

Wasabi Japanese Restaurant is originated from Japan and the owner is Yamada Sensei. It is a nice little japanese restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Esplanade Mall in Ratchada. Being on the 3rd floor it’s pretty much out of the way of the hustle and bustle of things in Esplanade. So it’s a nice little getaway from all the busy restaurants there. The food was great, the service was good too. So if you are in the Ratchada area and in the mood for a different japanese restaurant than your typical Fuji, Shabushi, Sakura, etc, then I really suggest giving Wasabi Restaurant a fair chance and try it out 🙂

The Menu:
What I Ate: I ordered a variety of great foods, including seared salmon, salmon sashimi, fried grouper and a few more things. Overall the meal was great, the food was delicious.
The Staff: The staff was very friendly and accommodating, we were seated at a regular middle table, but then a side window table opened up and asked if we would rather sit there with a nice view of Ratchada road. I appreciated that

Spanish On 4 aka Tapas Cafe Bangkok was is the downtown branch of ever-popular Tapas Cafe in Sukhumvit Soi 11. The new restaurant is located in the heart of the Silom business area on Silom Soi 4. During the day Soi 4 is busy with a lot of local office workers taking their lunch. At night, the street livens up and the terrace at Spanish on 4 becomes a great place for dining, drinking and people watching. The food is similar to Tapas Cafe – traditional spanish foods, and very authentic, Spanish tapas with weekly changing specials. The kitchen is overseen by Xavier Palomar, their chef from Barcelona, so having a true chef from Spain will reassure you that the foods at Spanish On 4 is very authentic. The wine list has wines from all the major wine producing areas of Spain at very reasonable prices and home made sangria is always a party favorite. California Wow

July 24, 2011

California Wow Fitness Center Thailand
“The World’s No. 1 Fitness Centers”
Open Monday-Friday 06:00am – 22:00pm and Weekends from 06:00am – 22:00pm
Website: http://www.californiawowx.com
Call: N/A
Address: I frequently visit the Ratchada Esplanade branch, but there are 8 locations in Bangkok. There are: Chaeng Wattana, Ekkamai, Esplanade, Pinklao, Ratchayothin, Siam Paragon, Silom, and Sukhumvit 23. There are also fitness centers outside of BKK at Chiang Mai and Pattaya. (EDIT: Many of the California WOW fitness centers are closed due to some bankruptcy situation, only ones open now are Sukhumvit 23, Siam Paragon, and Chiang Mai)

California Wow is a well known fitness center in Thailand, possibly the most popular. I joined in March 2011 and so far my “California Wow Experience” is good, but not great. I’m not sure about all their branches, but the Esplanade branch is usually very busy. The locker rooms are big, but the space when dealing with lockers is very small. The benches are the worst ever, you can’t even set things on them. But as for fitness equipment and services, they are plentiful. Their services include XXX Pole dance, personal training, pilates, kickfit, Wow yoga, group biking, kick boxing, and many more.

I did experience some problems when joining California Wow. The people I spoke with were really a bit pushy, trying to push me to spend a lot of money that day. For example, trying to push on a 60,000 baht fee for long period of time, I was only asking them to join for 1 week (to test their services to see if I like it or not), yet they were pushing for 60k, though I did end up joining at some 24,000 baht for 2 years, for 2 branches (Ratchayothin and Esplanade). And if you forget your towel, you’ll be fine because they let you borrow towels for 50 baht per day (a bit expensive for towel renting, but oh well). If you have joined California Wow please post your join day experience, and your overall experience with CaliWow please, comment here.

Some good things, I like there are so many machines, so many to choose from, whether you are going for cardio, strength, abs, arms, legs, they do have it all! Also, if you are a True Home Wifi internet user, you can login to the True Wifi using your user/pass (you should have it from your True Home Wifi information). Also, a little extra perk, I sometimes see the most famous actress/model in Thailand, Chompoo Araya A. Hargate working out there.
