Help rebuilding Khun Ruens dog island shelter

May 17, 2012

I got an email last week, about something the people of Thailand, tourists, locals, residences, everyone should take part in, that is helping the animals effected by those horrible floods.

Here’s an exerpt from the email I received:

“The Bangkok floods have now disappeared and we hope for no reoccurrence this year. Thank you for your support during the floods. With your help thousands of animals were saved!

The cleanup work continues and Soi Dog continues to help dogs that were affected by the disaster.

An outstanding task remains from the floods; the rebuilding of the dog shelter at what became known as Dog Island. Dog Island had been a temporary refuge for hundreds of dogs displaced by the Bangkok floods. The dogs on Dog Island captured the worlds attention and became symbolic of all the animals affected by the flooding.

The area where Dog Island is located is called Putthamonthon (often called Buddha Monthon). Putthamonthon is a huge Buddhist Temple complex in the Nakhon Pathom province of Thailand, west of Bangkok. Putthamonthon is the center of Buddhism in Thailand.

Prior to the floods a woman named Khun Ruen operated the shelter at Putthamonthon relying on the generosity of the community to help feed and care for the dogs. Unfortunately the Putthamonthon shelter was almost completely destroyed by the floods and Khun Ruen’s dogs were moved to the temporary rescue centre at WFFT south of Bangkok. Pictured below is Khun Ruen visiting her dogs at the temporary facilities.

Soi Dog has committed to rebuild thePutthamonthon shelter and I am asking for your help today in doing so.

Khun Ruen spends 7 days a week selflessly caring for the dogs at Phuttamonthon. Will you help Khun Ruen to keep fulfilling her promise to the animals in her care? Please consider helping Khun Ruen by donating to the Phuttamonthon Shelter appeal today and help these now all but forgotten dogs.”

Please take a moment to watch this short video of the evacuation of Khun Ruen’s dogs during the flood crisis:

Air Asia’s Tortilla A’la Tuna

May 3, 2012

Air Asia has introduced a few new menu items on board their Thai Air Asia flights. I’ve been flying with Air Asia for years and was never really interested in trying the menu items aside from coffee, tea, waters, etc. But on my latest flight from Bangkok to Ho Chi Min City (Saigon), I was browsing their menu and see they have the new “Tortilla A’la Tuna” and it looked delicious in the pictures.

I ordered it, it’s pretty big and meaty filled with tuna. And I absolutely love it! And it’s only Only 90 THB (approx $3 usd). “This Tortialla A’la Tuna recipe has been created by Seefah Restaurant”, said Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai Air Asia.

P72 Hotel Pattaya late checkout scam

April 1, 2012

Pattaya travelers beware! P72 Hotel in Pattaya Thailand are now scammers. Cracking down on late checkout customers and charging them for a FULL DAY for late checkout only by couple hours.

Picture of the P72 room

I’ve stayed in over 300 hotels in my life, in 25 different countries and this was the first time I’ve every experienced anything like this.

I’ve been to Pattaya many times, and stayed in P72 hotel on Walking Street many times, and never have a problem. But this day, around March 12th, I checkout at 3pm, and the front desk representative insist that I need to pay full price, we have an argument and I told them I’ll never stay there again, and he laughed and said “up to you, do what you want” in a very cocky and smug attitude.”

James J. (England)

Thank you James for writing in about this. I’ve stayed at p72 Hotel many times before also, great location there on Walking St. and directly opposite from Lucifers nightclub. That is too bad they are now scamming for such a small thing, they must really be hurting for business lately. Anyways, thank you for the warning, I will NEVER stay there again as well.

There info and address is this:

P.72 Hotel and Bar (opposite Lucifers on Walking Street)
412 Moo.10 Walking Street, Pattaya Beach Road,
Pattaya City, Chonburi 20150, Thailand
Phone: 038429291

The Pattaya City Group also owns Dream Hotel, Navin Mansion, and Ruen Thai Restaurant.

Bangkok Burger Co. is definitely a great choice for anyone in the mood for a true American style, American sized cheeseburger or specialty burger in Thailand.

The Menu: Find your favorite gourmet burgers here at Bangkok Burger Company. They have many rare types of burgers like The Sgt. Pepper, The Good Fella, The Carbonnara, The Aussie Burger, The Triple Cheese, The Gastro, The Yankee, The Cajun Chicken, The Philly Steak, The Swiss Burger, The Falafel, The Reggae Reggae, and many more! Also there are lots of side orders, salads and many drinks too. They also say “we use only prime cuts of aged charolais beef in our secret burger recipe” and also “our freshly made buns are served straight from our baker’s oven for that famous bbc taste!”
What I Ate: I ordered the Bacon Cheese Large. The burger was probably the thickest and fattest beef patty I’ve eaten in Bangkok. So the beef portion was huge, but I’ve tasted better burgers. The side order comes with steak fries, very rare to find in Thailand, and these were very delicious. I ordered an extra side order of baked beans for 37 baht, and this was the smallest portion of any dish I’ve seen in my life.
The Staff: I ordered from Chefs XP so this is N/A
The Bathroom: I ordered from Chefs XP so this is N/A
